UPPSC PCS Eligibility Criteria

UPPSC has mentioned the UPPSC PCS eligibility criteria in the official notification. Applicants looking to apply for the UP PCS exam must meet the UP PCS eligibility criteria before filling the UPPSC PCS application form. The UPPSC PCS eligibility criteria are based on nationality, age limit, educational qualification and physical. Nationality

The cut off for the examination of 2017 of Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission, which was announced in September 2019 was:

  • The cutoff of prelims in the general category in the executive group for the unreserved category and OBC was 128.
  • For female candidate, the cutoff was 121.
UPPSC Exam Pattern

Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission conducts the examination in three stages:

  • Preliminary Examination-Objective Type, for the selection of candidates for Main Examination.
  • Main Examination-Written, for the selection of candidates for Interview.

UPPSC Prelims Exam Pattern

The nature of the UPPSC Preliminary exam is Objective Type/ MCQ. The exam pattern comprises two papers i.e., General Studies I and General Studies II, with Objective/ MCQs (Multiple Choice Questions). Both papers are of 200 marks.

  • Paper- I will decide on the cut-off of the exam,
  • Paper- II is qualifying in nature, candidates need to score 33% marks in paper II.
  • There will be a 0.33% negative marking for every incorrect answer.
  • For e.g., if the maximum marks allotted for a question is 2, then answering it incorrectly would incur a penalty of 0.66 marks
  • Filling multiple circles on the OMR sheet for the same question would be treated as an incorrect answer and it would lead to negative marking.
  • There is no negative marking for leaving a question blank.
Prelims Syllabus
Paper 1 (General Studies)
Total Marks: 200 & Duration: Two hours

This will test the student's knowledge and passion for learning about the country. Also, the questions are from various aspects like history, geography, economy and much more.

  • Current events of national and international importance with reference to Uttar Pradesh.
  • History of India: Social, Economic and Political aspects of Indian History.
  • The Indian National Movement should be prepared so that aspirants know about the freedom movement, the growth of nationalism, and the attainment of Independence.
  • India and World Geography - Physical, Social, and Economic Geography of India and the World.
  • Indian Polity and Governance - Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
  • Economic and Social Development - Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.
  • General Issues on Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity, and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialization.
  • General Science:- Questions on General Science will cover general appreciation and understanding of Science, including everyday observation and experience.
Paper 2 (Civil Services Aptitude Test)
Total Marks: 200 & Duration: Two hours

The UPPSC Paper 2 in Prelims is going to be qualifying in nature. Candidates must obtain at least 33% in it. Its marks will not be considered to determine the Prelims result. The official UPPSC syllabus covers important topics as follows:

UPPSC Exam Pattern for Mains

Candidates who qualified for the PCS prelims exam are called for the main exam. The UPPSC Mains Exam Pattern is given below. The marks of the main exam will be considered for the final selection of the candidates. The UPPSC Mains Exam comprises eight papers that are descriptive in nature. The UPPSC Mains Exam is a merit-deciding round, it holds a great weightage as it is 1500 marks.

The optional subject from the UPPCS PCS main exam has been removed. The Government approved the proposal of removing the optional subject and instead of it, two papers will be introduced in the UPPSC main exam 2023. The UPPSC UPPCS main exam pattern can be summarised as follows:

UPPSC Mains Syllabus

UPPSC Mains Syllabus consists of 8 papers per the new exam pattern. Out of the 8 papers, one pertains to General Hindi, the second is an essay writing exam, and Papers 1, 2, 3, 4,5, and 6 are General Studies Papers. UPPSC Mains Syllabus for Paper 2 consists of essay writing of about 700 words for the following sections:

  • Section-A: Literature and Culture, Political Sphere and Social Sphere.
  • Section-B: Science, Economic Sphere/ Environment, Technology, Agriculture, Industry, and Trade.
  • Section-C: National and International Events Landslide, National Calamities, Earthquake, Deluge, Drought, National Development Programs and Projects.
Paper 3 (General Studies-I)

UPPSC GS 1 Syllabus shall consist of questions on the History and Geography of India. Candidates will need to understand ancient, medieval, and modern history well. The UPPSC Syllabus will also test their knowledge of the History, Culture, Tradition, Climate, and River system of Uttar Pradesh. A few other important topics that might appear in GS Paper 1 of the UP PCS syllabus are as follows:

  • Role of Women in Society and women organizations, population and related issues
  • Liberalization meaning, privatization, globalization, and their effects on the economy

Paper 4 (General Studies-II)

The syllabus of UPPSC GS Paper 2 is primarily based on the Indian Polity and Current Affairs with a good apprehension of Uttar Pradesh regarding Political, Administrative, Revenue, and Judicial systems.
